 1 In a two digit number , the digits differ by 2 . 10 times the number exceeds 5 times the sum of the number formed by reversing its digits and the sum of its digits by 90. Find the number. A. 46 B. 64 C. 20 D. -20
See Answer & Explanation Lets Discuss
Explanation

Let the digit be xy.

x-y=2  or y-x =2

y=x-2  ---(1)

or

x= y-2   ---(2)

10(10x+y) - 5((10y+x + x+y )=90

=>100x + 10y - 5(11y + 2x) = 90

=>100x + 10y -55y -10x = 90

=>90x- 45y=90

=>2x-y= 90/45=2

=>2x-y=2 ---(3)

Using (1) i.e y=x-2 in (3)

2x -(x-2) =2

=> 2x - x +2 = 2

=> x+2=2

=> x=0, but x being the 1st digit on the number can not be 0

Now using (2) in (3)

2(y-2) - y =2

=>2y-4-y=2

=>y-4=2

=>y=6

x=y-2=4.

Hence the Number is 46

 2 If the numerator and the denominator of a fraction are both increased by 1, the fraction becomes 3/5. If both are decreased by 1, it becomes 5/9. Find the fraction. A. 19/11 B. 11/19 C. 5/9 D. None of the Above
See Answer & Explanation Lets Discuss
Explanation

Let the fraction be  x/y.

Then,

(x+1)/(y+1) = 3/5

=>5(x+1) =3(y+1)

=> 5x+5=3y+3

=> 5x= 3y+3-5

=>x=(3y-2)/5  ---(1)

(x-1)/(y-1) = 5/9

=> 9(x-1)= 5(y-1)

=> 9x-9 = 5y-5

=> 9x-5y=4 ---(2)

Replacing the value of x from (1) in (2)

9(3y-2)/5 -5y=4

=>(27y-18)/5 -5y =4

=> (27y-18-25y )/5=4

=>2y-18=20

=>y=19.

x= (3y-2)/5= (57-2)/5 = 55/5=11

x=11

The fraction become= x/y=11/19.

 3 A Classroom has equal number of boys and girls. Eight girls left to play kho-kho, leaving twice as many boys as girls in the classroom. What as the total number of girls and boys present initially. A. 16 B. 32 C. 24 D. None of these
See Answer & Explanation Lets Discuss
Explanation

Let number of boys be x.

Then, number of girls is also x.

Now, 2 (x - 8) = x or x = 16

Total, number of student = 2x = (2 x 16) = 32.

 4 In a caravan, in addition to 50 hens there are 45 goats and 8 camels with some keepers. If the total number of feet be 224 more than the number of heads, find the number of keepers. A. 11 B. 19 C. 14 D. 15
See Answer & Explanation Lets Discuss
Explanation

Let the number of keepers be x. then,

Total number of heads = (50 + 45 + 8 + x) = (103 + x)

Totals number of feet = (45 + 8) x 4 + (50 + x) x 2 = (312 + 2x)

(312 + 2x) – (103 + x) =224

=> x=15

Hence, number of keepers = 15

 5 In a classroom, If 6 students per bench are assigned to accommodate all students, one extra bench will be required. However, if 7 students are accommodated per bench, there would be a space left for 5 student on one of the bench. What is the total number of students in the class? A. 30 B. 48 C. 72 D. 42
See Answer & Explanation Lets Discuss
Explanation

Let the number of in the class x. then,

6 (x + 1) = (7x – 5)

=> x=11

Hence, number of student in the class = 6 (x + 1) = 6 x 12 = 72
